6:00 pm - 9:00 pm - A CalArts Family Showcase Concert. Presented by CalArts San Francisco Alumni Chapter
Saturday January 28, 2012 at The Walt Disney Family Museum Experience John Cage's MUSICIRCUS: Over 30 performers, films, tutorials, workshops and more, all with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge! The San Francisco chapter of the CalArts Alumni Association in conjunction with The Walt Disney Family Museum presents a very special performance event. John Cage's MUSICIRCUS will feature Cal Arts Alumni, performing along with other well known Bay Area favorites. The Walt Disney Family Museum provides an extraordinary setting to bring together multiple creative communities for an afternoon of new experiences and global interaction. First performed in 1967, John Cage's MUSICIRCUS is simply an invitation for performers to assemble and play together - a "happening" where multiple performances occur simultaneously to create new and unusual configurations. The stellar line-up of participants includes: David Rosenboom, Michael Jon Fink, Fred Frith, Chris Brown, Steve Horowitz, the Mills College Contemporary Performance Ensemble, R. Wiley Evans, Stupid Man Suit, Dan Becker, Alexis Lane Jensen, the Maria Q and Rory Cloud Duo, Joe Metzler, Tracy Grubbs, Max Guiltari, the Bob Frazier Sextet, Jess Rowland, Adam Frey, Chris Forrest, Thomas Handman Lopez, Kubilay Uner, Pam Aronoff, Pablo Silva, David Javelosa, Eric N. Forte, Becky Allen, Mark Allen Shepherd, Bob O'Neill, Lx Rudis, Michael Wiess, Mark Coniglio, Bob Clendenen, Dan Plonsey's New Monsters, Steve Adams, Bradley Hughes & Tiger Club and B Boogie Dance just to name a few! "This is going to be an amazing conflagration of performers and talent all in one incredible space" says Steve Horowitz, one of the curators. "Yamaha is bringing out a Disklavier Mark III MIDI grand piano for the afternoon. What a beautiful instrument! We also have the great fortune of having David Rosenboom, Dean of the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, in person to present his piano music. Add in dance troupes, hands-on art workshops for the kids and fantastic bands playing magical music in one amazing setting and it all adds up to a must see event!" This family-friendly performance marathon is free to the general public and designed to be kid-friendly, with various workshops and hands-on fun during the day. We welcome young ones from 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm to create and experience art with their family. The event culminates with a festive gala concert from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the evening. Event performances are free to the Public. This event does not include Museum Gallery Admission. The Walt Disney Family Museum is located at: 104 Montgomery Street, The Presidio of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA 94129 For more information or to schedule an interview, please email Ruben Esqueda. |
